SANDY HOOK VISITORS CENTER

August 11, 2010.  A friend of mine told me how he enjoyed a "NIKE TOUR" at Sandy hook, so Paddy and I drove out to the Visitor's Center to see if we could pick up a brochure.

We were surprised and delighted to find Ranger Tom Minton, who is a walking encyclopedia on the history of Sandy Hook, including the Nike Missile Radar Site, the Gunnison Shore Battery, the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, the Sandy Hook Proving Ground and other historic activities at Sandy Hook.  Tom provided in-depth knowledge on subjects of our interest and he also provided maps and webpage URL's for additional information.  Amazing guy !

We took a brief walk around the Visitor's Center and expect to revisit at another time to see those rooms we missed.  There were many informative signs to paint the nautical history of the Hook.

Great visit, most enjoyable and informative.
