ABANDONED TRAINS

WINSLOW JUNCTION, NJ

(SCROLL DOWN TO SEE ALL PHOTOS)

April 20, 2018.  On the internet, I saw some interesting photos of abandoned vintage trains and wanted to see them for myself and take my own photos.  It seems from many photos of abandoned places and things, that the items of interest go through several states:  untouched, broken windows, graffiti and extreme physical damage.  These train cars experienced the same treatment.

A half mile from these abandoned cars used to be a another series of cars and several vintage diesel engines.  Several years ago, a nearby company wanted to get rid of the "eyesore" and those engines and cars were removed and scrapped.  A few blocks from these cars, and on a different set of tracks is the mainline Winslow Switching Tower.

Winslow Junction is half way between Philadelphia and Atlantic City.  In the 30's an enormous amount of train traffic went through Winslow Junction including both the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Reading Railroad.  This signaling tower could switch trains from Philadelphia to Atlantic City or to Ocean City and Cape May.
